Just Stop Oil Supporters disrupted the British Open on Friday, 21 July, setting off an orange flare next to the 17th green.

Activists also threw orange powder paint on the green before American golfer Billy Horschel helped hand over one protester to police.

The Open organisers the R&A said that four people have been arrested.

“Play was not disrupted and we thank marshals, players and spectators for their vigilance,” they said.

The group say they staged the protest to demand the UK government halts all new licences and consents for oil, gas and coal projects.
