Research has found that a quarter of fans think football is homophobic.
The Gay Star News has revealed the latest findings from the Culture, Media and Sport Committee.
Research has found 25% of fans think football is homophobic while 10% think football is racist. About 14% of recent match attendees also reported hearing homophobic abuse.
Andy Wasley, from UK-based gay rights charity Stonewall, believes homophobia is a far more serious problem than has been recognised so far.
A statement from the FA states they agree that while ‘substantial progress’ has been made, challenges remain for football authorities.
As several players have been fined for making racist remarks in the last year, the FA said: "We remain committed, along with all of our stakeholders, to promoting equality and diversity within the game and to the eradication of all forms of discrimination in football."
