At such moments of fiscal stress, it is almost de rigueur to turn to this space for some of its renowned and consoling perspective. But, in truth, we must confess to a struggle in our search of the wider world for what is sometimes termed "good news".
Spring is here and summer may well have been gloriously trailed, but the mood, never as sunny, seems to be summed up by one of today's headlines, "Hot weather kills almost as many people as cold weather", which, with the news that beach huts in Kent now cost over £70,000, does cast a bit of a cloud.
Still, persevering, we can tell you that you are less likely to die of a heart attack or fracture a hip in the summer; and that, at Bristol Zoo, following her operation, Romina, the 21-year-old female gorilla, is now feeling frisky again and enjoying "a bit of rough and tumble" with Bongo, an 18-year-old male. Cheers!
