Date with history

When history was taught solely through dates, it seemed to make learning numbers more important than knowing what actually happened. It gave history a reputation for being a rather pointless memory game, rather than a glorious window into the very nature of mankind. But just as damaging to the subject are teaching methods that make history into a jumbled haze of interesting, but unrelated, events. The Qualifications and Curriculum Authority needs to find a middle way. Children must learn their dates, but they must also understand why they are important. The day that occurs will, truly, be a date to remember.
