The four Britons who filed law suits yesterday against the US government for their treatment in Guantanamo Bay have an excellent case. They were robbed of their liberty for two years despite not being charged. And their allegations of torture are chilling echoes of what we know occurred in Abu Ghraib prison.

The four Britons who filed law suits yesterday against the US government for their treatment in Guantanamo Bay have an excellent case. They were robbed of their liberty for two years despite not being charged. And their allegations of torture are chilling echoes of what we know occurred in Abu Ghraib prison.

From the UN charter to the Geneva conventions to the recent Supreme Court ruling on Guantanamo, the Bush administration's record on respecting any sort of legal constraint has been a disgrace. It is to be hoped that these four Britons will be successful and that, finally, the US government will be held to account.
