You don't have mail

Someone at least has learnt the lesson of the Hutton inquiry. John Caudwell, the multi-millionaire boss of the mobile phone shop Phones 4u, has banned his staff from using e-mail.

Andrew Gilligan must sometimes wish he worked selling mobile phones rather than prompting MPs electronically to reveal his colleague's source.

Jo Moore, too, might have appreciated Mr Caudwell's advice while she was engaged in the drudgery of news management.

As would all of us who have accidentally sent "I don't love her really" or "My boss is a pig" to the wrong address.

You do not have to go as far as Mr Caudwell, whose staff will no doubt now just say what they think of him on the phone. But remember: just read it again before you press send.
