THE Test and County Cricket Board has shown its true colours by deducting 25 points from Lancashire CC for their win over Middlesex, because of the pitch. The southern bias of the cricket establishment never ceases to amaze me.
The pitch had been watered to try and produce a good wicket, giving equal chance to bat and ball. Middlesex won the toss and put Lancashire in to bat. Lancashire scored 163. Middlesex scored 101 on an improving wicket.
Lancashire then scored 484 - hardly possible on a bad wicket. Middlesex scored 185 and lost the game. Immediately the pitch was investigated.
Middlesex had a better chance than Lancashire to score runs (on the middle days) but didn't. Lancashire batted when the pitch was at its 'worst' - on the first day.
Why did the Lord's wicket not bear scrutiny when, with Selvey and Daniels, they regularly bowled teams out in a day?
Such kid-glove treatment for the establishment side sickens me. England's poor Test record reflects the sad has- beens who run the game.
