Sir: I wish to dissociate myself from the evangelistic views expressed by Peter Galbraith (letter, 6 July). Although a strict vegetarian, I would not dream of telling anyone, least of all my friends, what they should or should not eat.

I am flattered if they take particular care to cater for my idiosyncrasy but am not offended if I can only eat part of the meal: there is more to a dinner party than food.
