Sir: In the name of competitiveness, the people at the bottom of the pile have their earnings compared with those in the sweat-shops of Asia, the people at the top with those in the most successful economies of the Western world, so that the gap between the two is stretched beyond the limits of human decency. Is this really the kind of society of which Mr Farooq Azar (Letters, 3 June) and others like him think we should be proud?
Yours sincerely,
D. C. POTTS
