Letter: Channel rail bids
Sir: I take exception to the views ascribed to me by Michael Harrison in his article 'BR fights for control of Channel Link' (21 June). Mr Harrison has not spoken to me and his assertions are without foundation.
There has been a positive response to the Department of Transport's request for private sector views on participation in a joint venture to fund the new railway. The various submissions are being appraised by a team led by the Department of Transport and comprising Union Railways and our respective financial advisers. These arrangements were announced by the Secretary of State for Transport on 22 March.
It is premature to speculate on the outcome of this assessment process, which will depend on the weight of the arguments put forward. Clearly it will be for Government to choose between whatever options emerge.
Yours sincerely,
JOHN PRIDEAUX
Chairman
