Sir: The winning entries in your pounds 30,000 competition (report, 10 January) were deeply disappointing - in fact the winner hardly complied with your own ground rules. The object surely was to find an individual (as opposed to a business) whose idea was to do something completely new for them, an idea that would change life for the better, set the human spirit free, break new ground. Something transcendental that would inspire others. The judges were 'experienced in changing lives' but opted for the status quo.
The winner proposes no change whatever: he merely wishes to inject money into a run-down business (however worthy and traditional) - and 'relocate my brother and me'. Nothing new, no soaring imaginative leap: just dull and boring, really.
Yours sincerely,
