Letter: Don't blame the messenger

SURELY Marian Rose (Letters, 2 January) cannot seriously believe that it is the Independent on Sunday that is 'insulting and denigrating' women, or even 'giving credence' to Jeffrey Bernard's provocative utterances by publishing them? By treating such extravagant nonsense as though it were reasoned and persuasive (and therefore dangerous) argument deserving censorship, it is Ms Rose who appears to be giving it credence.

Newspapers perform a positive service in allowing such outrageously bigoted individuals to expose themselves occasionally, in their own words, as the ludicrous self-publicists they are.
