Letter: End of the Wrens

I WAS interested to read the poem "written by Lt Col Pople" in your account of the sex scandal court martial ("Colonel is cleared in Wren case", 10 April). In fact, it is identical to Robert Herrick's "Upon Julia's Clothes", except for the name-change to "Karen" and leaving out the difficult words, thus creating the nonsensical line, "Then methinks how sweetly the sheen of her clothes" out of "Then, then, methinks, how sweetly flows / The liquefaction of her clothes."

Fortunately, plagiarism is not, I think, a court martial offence.
