Sir: Fr Broadbent says (11 July) that most of those leaving the Church of England over women priests would readily accept them "if it could be shown by a consensus of the Universal Church to be what God wants". If he believes that the spirit reveals God's will through consensus rather than through a "magisterium", he has made a very strange choice of which branch of the Universal Church to join.
