Sir: If off-road cyclists need more space, why not alter the law to allow them to ride those rural footpaths in danger of being lost because nobody walks them? Get the parish council to show where a footpath should run, with easily and nationally recognisable markers, and then let anyone so minded ride there. The off-road cyclists get extra space and, with luck, we get back our footpaths.
