Sir: Paul Taylor cited his favourite Beckett stage direction ('Way out of line', 18 March) from Ghost Trio where he asks for a door (not a window) to be 'imperceptibly ajar'. I fondly remember working with Beckett on a BBC television production. When I had set the door in what I considered to be the required position, I checked back with Beckett. The reply came: 'Oh no, that is perceptibly ajar'.
