Letter: Kept in the dark over monuments
Sir: There has been much comment in the public press (report, 27 October; letters, 28 October) about the proposals announced by the chairman of English Heritage on Monday last, in particular the new policy concerning the future management of a large proportion of the nation's Guardianship monuments.
As members of the Ancient Monuments Advisory Committee, one of the statutory committees set up to advise the Commission of English Heritage, we write to you to indicate our own concern about these proposals, over which we had not been consulted. We have requested a meeting with the commission and hope that these policies can be further considered before they are implemented.
Yours faithfully,
RENFREW OF KAIMSTHORN, D. BAKER, D. CROSSLEY, B. CUNLIFFE, M. FULFORD, J. GRAHAM-CAMPBELL, T. HASSALL, A. LAWSON, I. LONGWORTH
