Sir: It seems sad and strange to put a library of national and international acclaim in a cul-de-sac ("Don't bury the books in the garden", 11 January). The Lindley library should be kept in London, at the hub of the British transport system, acce ssibleto everyone. Researchers from all over the country can then use it in conjunction with other London libraries. Of course people at Wisley would like it there; northerners would prefer it in the north! As a researcher in the history of plant collecting, I beg the Royal Horticultural Society to reconsider.
Yours faithfully, BRENDA J. McLEAN Department of Geography University of Liverpool
