Sir: Mark Vardy's point (letter, 29 May) about MP3 files is misleading. MP3 is virtually indistinguishable from CD quality for most music fans. Furthermore, "MPMan" is now in production in Korea. This system, which looks like a small dictaphone, enables you to store up to 64 minutes of MP3 music and carry it about with you Walkman-style. It is also possible to make CD copies which are playable on normal CD players - albeit with a slight loss of quality. MP3s are not just in the domain of the computer.

It is in the interests of all creatives to take part in the development of new technologies, and this includes means to protect rights.
