THE CISKEI government is a non-elected military dictatorship. Its action of shooting at and killing unarmed demonstrators cannot be severely enough condemned. But the ANC must be incredibly nave or stupid to believe that it could 'topple' such a government through a protest march. To send unarmed innocents into a state noted for its abuse of human rights recalls those lines: 'Into the valley of death rode the six hundred.'
Is the ANC really so nave, or is it using the suffering and death of its supporters not only to further discredit the South African government, but also to promote and provoke further violence throughout the country.
