Letter: Not BA's problem

Sir: In spite of specific warnings, the British government failed to ensure the security of passengers on Pan Am Flight 103, destroyed over Lockerbie on 21 December 1988, for which it was responsible. British Airways is behaving responsibly in refusing to risk the lives of passengers and crews by carrying Salman Rushdie. The Department of Transport, not BA, is responsible for Mr Rushdie's security when he travels by air. It seems that BA has little confidence in the department's security arrangements.

Yours faithfully,

MARTIN CADMAN
