Letter: Old man not too dirty for some

JO GLANVILLE informs us that a dozen punters a night are reported to have walked out of the Liverpool Playhouse production of Lysistrata by Aristophanes, 'unable to cope with the bawdiness of the text and the balloon- like appendages worn by the women in the cast'. ('Dirty old man does it again', Review, 13 June).

The audience of 25 May obviously exercised awesome restraint in the face of moral outrage because not one person fled. Furthermore, people concealed their shame and horror at having to witness such a repugnant spectacle by laughing uproariously.

My companion (a classics graduate) and I stayed to the bitter end, joining in the tumultuous applause - to conceal our revulsion, of course.
