Letter: One way of saving an ancestral home

Sir: So David Mellor has rejected out of hand the proposals to preserve Pitchford Hall for the nation. This is unfortunate as, so often in the past, the house has served as a place of refuge for fugitives, political and otherwise.

Are future generations to be denied the ghostly spectre in the Priest's Hole of Prince Rupert's troopers, together with a strange, lurking figure wearing a Chelsea football shirt?

Yours faithfully,

D. E. EVANS
