LETTER: Partner problems

Sir: I am writing in response to Midge Gillies's article concerning the jealousy that therapy can incur ("Strangers who know too much", 28 December).

The examples she used were fairly mild in comparison to the great damage often caused by the triangular situation set up by a therapist, the client and the client's partner - where the partner is excluded from a very intimate and exclusive relationship

with an unknown.

Is it not a little disingenuous to assume that this situation will not have a high risk of causing problems in a marriage/partnership? Despite the use of therapy-speak, a therapist is sadly only too human and is all too often satisfying his/her own needs.

Sincerely, SUSANNE STEVENS Cardiff 28 December
