IN YOUR report on the results of the police breath testing campaign over the Christmas period, ('Police renew plea for random breath testing', 3 January), the chairman of the traffic committee of the Association of Chief Police Officers yet again makes a plea for random breath testing of drivers.
I have no objection to random breath testing, but I do object to the hypocrisy of this man who must know that if the police want to run random breath testing they can do so. Why does Walter Girven, who is also chief constable of Wiltshire, persist in his request? Perhaps what he should be seeking is greater imagination from the police in the use of their existing powers.
