Sir: Surely the Prime Minister must be aware that machinery already exists to trim excessive salaries and bonuses: it is called income tax.
The addition of five pence to the present 40-pence rate, and the creation of a new tax band at 60 pence to be applied to taxable incomes over £100,000, would cause no real hardship, and the extra revenue could then ensure proper funding for health, education, transport and other essential services.
