Like David Rowley (Briefly, 3 October) I too enjoyed David Thomson's article on Harvey Keitel, especially as we worked together on The Duellists. I was production manager. Mr Rowley's memory of where the film was shot is wrong. We did indeed shoot most of the picture in the Dordogne. Only one week's shooting (the retreat from Russia) was shot in Scotland and, as a thaw had set in, we had to recreate the snowy plains and mountains with salt and polystyrene. A further week's shooting took place in and around London because England has maintained some very beautiful French interiors.
