Sir: Michael Dean and others have lost sight of the meaning of our method of counting time. The omitted suffix AD means we count time since a day on which we believe (or presume) Jesus was born; that was Day Zero. At the end of December 1999, 2,000 years will have elapsed since that day; isn't that what we are supposed to be celebrating?
