LETTER:Teachers not solely to blame for poor lessons

Sir: So the chief inspector of schools finds that 36 per cent of lessons taught to 7 to 11-year-olds are "unsatisfactory".

Could this possibly be related to the fact that each primary school teacher is expected to teach maths, English science, geography, history, physical education, religious education, information technology, design technology, art, music and for good measure, French, to six differentiated levels to perhaps as many as 40 children of widely varying abilities, in a single classroom with few if any, specialist resources or suitable equipment?
