Biased reporting and the BBC

Sir: While we were most interested in the main thrust of today's article on Julian Lewis ("Tireless bloodhound on trail of `bias' ", 29 March), there were two small points which were not strictly accurate.

1. We did not apologise to John Major. We merely gave an undertaking not to repeat the alleged libel. There were no other conditions.

2. While Julian Lewis indeed used various tactics to undermine our operation, he has not closed us down. We are preparing our next edition at this moment and it will be on sale just after Easter. Most of the writs he did issue to the trade are being vigorously defended.
