THE advertising agencies that took up the challenge of "Selling the Unionists" (19 March) showed the complete ignorance of Northern Irish affairs that is endemic in England.
First, under no circumstances or juggling of statistical facts can it be said that 90 per cent of the people in Northern Ireland want to be British.
Second, to compare the Unionist position in Northern Ireland with Nelson Mandela's struggle is simply ludicrous.
A more appropriate campaign would be a billboard showing a Unionist politician in the garb of the Ku Klux Klan with "Proud to be British" printed boldly on the front and carrying a placard with the slogan "Ulster, a Protestant State for a Protestant people". This would win the Unionists much more support in racist, sectarian England.
