BLAKE Morrison's profile of George Steiner omitted one important aspect - his English ('Too clever by half', 16 October). His inaugural lecture, which was published in the Independent the previous week, confirmed that the professor of comparative literature at a leading university in England is virtually incapable of constructing a single sentence in normal English. As it happens, the same was true of F R Leavis. Perhaps Cambridge wasn't so silly after all.
