AS TEACHERS, may we register our bewilderment at the Independent on Sunday's collusion with the agencies in their sick portrayal of anorexic models as the height of fashion ('On the eve', Review, 22 May).

It is generally known that some supermodels are having to starve themselves to hold down their jobs. It may not be equally well-known that many schoolgirls have convinced themselves that they must imitate them.

Do we have to offer them such abused role models?
