YOUR sports Comment ('Reality of the Fantasy fad', 30 January) was unimaginative and cynical. Fantasy football is an attempt by fans to become more involved in a sport that has traditionally ignored them. The suggestion that we are all nerds 'playing out fantasies on computer networks with no more
romance than stockbrokers playing the market' is as wrongheaded as it is offensive. All 15 'managers' in the fantasy league I chair have a genuine love of football, with hardly an anorak between us. Since most of us support the likes of Sheffield United and Southampton, we know all too well 'the misery of watching your team lose 1-0 on a wet weekday evening'.
