Letter: RE should be about learning, not about pleasing all faiths
DISCUSSIONS on the teaching of religion in schools are missing one very important point. In this scientific age of reason the majority of people no longer believe in supernatural, religious fairy stories.
Is it not time we took the advice of academics like Dr David Starkey and started to teach our children the history of all religions instead of analysing what proponents believe in?
For example, not many people know that the Catholic (all-embracing) Christian doctrines and dogmas date from the 4th century and have nothing to do with a philosopher called Jesus. It was at the Council of Nicaea in AD 325 that Jesus was officially made into God - the creator of the universe. It was here that the Christian priests invented three gods in one, Father, Son and Holy Ghost. There are excellent historical records of proceedings at this council.
