AT LEAST we must admit that there is no mock modesty in Cedric Brown: he clearly believes that he, as chief executive of British Gas, can ensure that the company makes, or saves, well over £500,000 annually that it would not otherwise do. I am su re thathalf-a-dozen people in British Gas, not to mention top management of other industries, would make excellent chief executives and be happy to do so for half his salary.
It is sad that avarice seems to be rapidly replacing job satisfaction as the motivation of top management in this country.
