I would have thought it unnecessary to employ a hot cross bun tester (Food and Drink Section). A hot cross bun is just that and no more. I was bemused a few weeks back to see ‘choc chip and fondant’ hot cross buns in one store. Why? If this is a Christian Country as Dave attests, it would be general knowledge that the hot cross bun is not a luxury food, but a simple baked item bearing a cross as a reminder of a particularly barbaric and unpleasant form of execution. It should be eaten on Good Friday.

On the brink

The Academy of Medical Royal Colleges have urged the government and doctors to "step back from the brink" to avert an all-out strike. Doctors desperately want to do this. We do not want to strike, we only want to complete the contract negotiations that we started, rather than allow the government to walk away early and undemocratically impose a half-cooked, ill-prepared contract that threatens patient safety. If the strike goes ahead the responsibility will lie solely with the ministers who pigheadedly refused to engage in negotiations over this very important healthcare issue with the healthcare professionals who understand the issue best.
