Long-lost louden : LETTERS

From Mr Stephen Frost Sir: Congratulations to Miles Kington's son for rediscovering the word "louden" ("Louden it, but quietly, please," 25 January). He must have been looking at the music of Percy Grainger who, at the turn of the century, was using "louden" instead of the Italian term crescendo. I look forward to hearing John Motson misuse it next Saturday night on Match of the Day: "... and Blackburn Rovers have really reached a louden!"
