Making that connection : LETTERS
UNFORTUNATELY your "True stories from the Great Railway Disaster" (29 January) missed certain aspects of the truth. My 09.14 service from Sheffield to Manchester is not a connection out of the 09.11 from Leicester because the 09.42 from Sheffield, which goes by a different route, arrives in Manchester seven minutes earlier. Our timetables make it quite clear that seven minutes are needed for connections at Sheffield given the distance between platforms. My business is providing services which do connect with services operated by other colleagues in the industry. Operational constraints can sometimes make it difficult to make planned connections when there is some delay in the system - how long do you hold a full train in case one or two people need to make a connection? But we do make every effort to offer a network service.
