From Mr Douglas Merritt Sir: Many national newspapers, including the Independent, carried a full-page advertisement in December 1994 in which Euro-tunnel's "Le Shuttle" proclaimed "Just 35 minutes to the other side".

The message at the time had a worrying echo. With current suspicions of lax security, it sounds truly ominous.
