Maxie the cat, a Basingstoke moggie which dashed through a cat-flap when being chased by a St Bernard called Freddie. The dog remained stuck in the cat-flap for five hours until cut free by firemen, as Maxie watched.

A bad day for:

Flying rats, as a Canadian Airways plane was delayed while a rat on board was trapped. The incident was thought to be a prank for the Year of the Rat. "I suppose we're lucky it's not the year of the Horse," a spokesman said.
