Happily, these well-heeled individuals had brought their curios to the Institute of Contemporary Art's annual gala, Figures of Speech, to fundraise in the name of art.

But first, Pixie Geldof (along with her father Bob, who put his ukelele up for sale later that night) held hands with the fashion designer Henry Holland and quaffed posh nibbles at the champagne reception that took place at the King George III room inside The Brewery in East London.

The singer Mica, ICA chair Alan Yentob, and comedian and gala compere Alan Carr, rubbed shoulders with many of London's hottest gallerists, including Victoria Miro, from her eponymous gallery and Ivan Wirth (from Hauser and Wirth).

Meanwhile Janet Street-Porter carried a shower-cap to stop her hair-dye running after an unfortunate incident in Elton John's shower.
