Chris Pine has at last signed up with an agency after leaving his boutique talent agency SDB Partners last year. Best known for his starring role as Captain Kirk in Star Trek (2009), Pine has signed with uberagency CAA. Next up is the title role in Jack Ryan, directed by Kenneth Branagh.

Hunger hilarity for Walsh

Maiara Walsh will be the female lead in the spoof version of The Hunger Games, entitled The Starving Games. Jason Friedberg and Aaron Seltzer, the duo behind Meet the Spartans, wrote and will direct. Other targets for the script will be The Avengers, Sherlock Holmes and the Harry Potter finale.

Cameron’s life after Avatar

James Cameron has taken a shine to The Informationist, a novel by Taylor Stevens, centring on a heroine born in central Africa who spent her teenage years as a protegée of gun-runners. Cameron’s Lightstorm Entertainment has picked up movie rights, and he will direct after he’s done with his Avatar sequels.

Mark’s monkey business

Mark Bomback, whose writing credits include the Total Recall remake, is working on Dawn of the Planet of the Apes. Matt Reeves will direct this sequel to 2011’s Rise of the Planet of the Apes. Amanda Silver and Rick Jaffa, who wrote Rise, created the initial draft for Dawn, which continues the tale of simian Caesar.

Scary stars behaving badly

Dimension’s Scary Movie 5 is lining up a list of stars as often in the news for off-screen exploits as on. Lindsay Lohan, Mike Tyson, Heather Locklear and Charlie Sheen have been joined by actor, rapper and stand-up Katt Williams, who allegedly pulled a gun outside Hollywood’s Supperclub recently.

Jenna’s two new unions

Rumour has it that it wasn’t in their vows. But Jenna Dewan Tatum, wife of Channing Tatum, has just signed to UTA, her husband’s agency. The actress is currently filming Lifetime TV pilot Witches of East End alongside Julia Ormond. Her film credits include 10 Years, Step Up and The Hot Chick.
