The first clip of Alien: Covenant has been released exactly one year from its cinema release.

Before you get too excited, however, the extremely brief video shows one shot of the film's lead actor Katharine Waterston in hypersleep.

The Prometheus follow-up will see Colony ship The Covenant collide with synthetic David (Michael Fassbender) who claims to be the lone survivor of the Prometheus expedition.

Joining Waterston in Ridley Scott's sequel is Danny McBride, Demián Bichir, Amy Seimetz and Callie Hernandez who'll appear in next month's not-so-secret Blair Witch sequel.

It was recently revealed that Prometheus' lead Noomi Rapace will be returning as Elizabeth Shaw - however, in what capacity is unknown.

Further character details have teased the identity of Waterston's character, but not much else is known considering the film won't be released until August 2017.

Original Alien character Ellen Ripley - made famous by Sigourney Weaver - will return in Alien 5 which is set to be made by District 9 director Neil Blomkamp.

Waterston will next be seen in Harry Potter spin-off Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them which will be released 18 November.
