Teasers for Ridley Scott’s Prometheus sequel/Alien prequel, Alien: Covenant, have been hitting the internet at a steady rate since filming began earlier this year.

Finally, Ridley Scott has wrapped filming, with the official Alien Anthology Twitter account celebrating with a new image of Scott and Katherine Waterston on set.

What’s striking is Waterston’s look; already, set images have led to comparisons with Sigourney Weaver’s iconic character Ripley.

The new image has, of course, received similar comparisons, in thanks to her weapon bolstered over one shoulder and white vest.

A supposed ‘spoiler’ which leaked this year discussed how Waterston’s character will link to the original films - Warning: link could contain a huge spoiler for the film.

20th Century Fox released the film’s official plot synopsis earlier this year. It reads: "Bound for a remote planet on the far side of the galaxy, the crew of the colony ship Covenant discovers what they think is an uncharted paradise, but is actually a dark, dangerous world - whose sole inhabitant is the 'synthetic' David (Michael Fassbender), survivor of the doomed Prometheus expedition.”

Notably, Noomi Rapace's explorer Elizabeth Shaw is not mentioned although she was last seen alive in Prometheus.

Fox has also confirmed there will be another film after Covenant, making up a full prequel trilogy linking directly to the original Alien.

The Bladerunner director previous revealed there could possibly be three sequels to Prometheus. Alien: Covenant is set for release in the US on 4 August 2017.
