Local and international celebrities in the worlds of film, TV, music and comedy are taking action to support firefighters and relief organisations as devastating fires continue to rage across Australia.

Australian comedian Celeste Barber has raised more than $27 million (£14.3 million), while celebrities such as Selena Gomez, Rebel Wilson, Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban have donated hundreds of thousands.

Barber announced she had set up a fundraiser on Facebook: "I'm raising money for The Trustee for NSW Rural Fire Service & Brigades Donations Fund and your contribution will make an impact, whether you donate a lot or a little. Anything helps,” she wrote.

At the Golden Globes, Russell Crowe and Cate Blanchett led a number of Hollywood stars urging people to take action and support Australia as it battles the fires.
