Marvel Studios releases Black Widow teaser trailer

Marvel Studios has released the first trailer for Black Widow.

The new film is the first standalone adventure for Scarlett Johansson’s character Natasha Romanoff.

The film takes place before the events of Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame, meaning it’ll follow on directly from Captain America: Civil War.

Australian filmmaker Cate Shortland, best known for Nazi drama Lore, directs the film, which will also star Florence Pugh, Rachel Weisz and Stranger ThingsDavid Harbour.

The Handmaid’s Tale actor OT Fagbenle will also appear in the film.

Marvel fans spotted an emotional Infinity War Easter egg in the new trailer, which some feel is giving away a possible plot point.

Speaking about the film, Johansson told The Hollywood Reporter that the film packs “a big punch” and that it’s been “liberating in a way” to act as executive producer for the first time for a Marvel film.

“I feel like I’m in control of the destiny of this film, which gives me a lot more peace of mind,” she said.

Other films in Marvel’s Phase Four will include The Eternals, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and Thor: Love and Thunder.

Black Widow will be released in cinemas on 1 May, 2020.
