Daisy Ridley reads Star Wars book to thank key workers

'Please accept my tiny offering of gratitude in the form of storytelling'

Daisy Ridley showed her gratitude for Star Wars fans on the frontlines in the fight against coronavirus by sharing a video of herself reading a children’s book about droid BB-8.

The actress, who played Rey in the recent Star Wars trilogy, treated key workers to a soothing reading of Star Wars: BB-8 on the Run by Drew Daywalt.

“Thank you to everyone staying at home and thank you to everyone out on the front lines helping those in need. Please accept my tiny offering of gratitude in the form of storytelling,” Daisy wrote in the accompanying tweet, which was shared on the official Star Wars page.

It comes as Ridley addressed the “tricky” reception that was given by fans of the sci fi series to Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker following its release in December.

Asked about the struggles of joining a franchise with such a long-standing and opinionated following, the 28-year-old replied: “Ninety-eight per cent, it’s so amazing. This last film, it was really tricky.

“January was not that nice. It was weird. I felt like all of this love we’d been shown the first time around – I was like, ‘Where’s the love gone?’”

She added: “I think it’s a tricky thing when you’re part of something that’s so filled with love, and then people – everyone’s entitled to not like something. But it feels – I don’t know, it feels like it’s changed slightly, but I think in general that’s because of social media and what have you.”
