Dunkirk - Trailer 1 [HD]

The first reactions are in for Dunkirk, the new film from acclaimed filmmaker Christopher Nolan, and it seems like he's gone and done it again.

Dunkirk marks Nolan's first film since 2014 sci-fi Interstellar and follows the battle between German soldiers and Allied troops that lasted for ten days in 1940 which ultimately led to the evacuation of more than 330,000 allied troops.

The film was screened for critics ahead of its release in a few weeks time and, judging by their reactions, it seems like Nolan has nailed the war genre with one critic describing it as "Inception meets The Longest Day."

Fresh hints about the film have surfaced following the verdicts with confirmation that the film - which clocks in at 107 minutes (the director's second shortest film to date) has little dialogue, instead focusing on the efforts of many soldiers to get out alive.

Unsurprisingly, the cinematography has been praised as a highlight with his new collaborator Hoyte van Hoytema- who replaced long-time collaborator Wally Pfister for Interstellar - receiving acclaim for his work.

For those wondering, it's thumbs up for Harry Styles who makes his film debut in the war thriller.

You can read a collection of reactions below.

Dunkirk is released 21 July
