Fast and Furious 9 feud: Tyrese Gibson hits out at Dwayne Johnson for delaying next film
The delay is said to be due to a rumoured spin-off involving Johnson's character, Hobbs
A fresh Fast & Furious feud has seen Tyrese Gibson lash out at co-star Dwayne Johnson for delaying the next installment.
The actor, who has played Roman Pearce in the long-running franchise's last five films, criticised the actor following Fast & Furious 9's release date change from 2019 to 2020.
Gibson hinted that the delay has something to do with a planned spin-off involving Johnson's character, Luke Hobbs.
Sharing a post of the new release date, Gibson took aim at Johnson and his “brother-in-law” producing partner Hiram Garcia, writing: Congratulations to @TheRock and your brother in law aka 7 bucks producing partner @hhgarcia41 for making the fast and the furious franchise about YOU [sic].“
He later published a photo of the original cast including the late Paul Walker, writing: “Diversity, love, multi ethnic worldwide multi generational, United Nations, One Race, Fast Family...... Until Dewayne showed up I guess this whole time he had a problem cause he wasn't the ONLY ONE on the movie poster [sic].”
This isn't the first time Johnson has been embroiled in a Fast & Furious feud. Ahead of the franchise's eighth entry, it was widely reported that the actor was being kept away from Vin Diesel following tense on-set encounters. Sharing his support for Gibson, the latter shared a photo of him and Gibson alongside Walker captioning it, “Brotherhood.”
The Fast & Furious spin-off - which Gibson claims was originally set to be focused on Pearce and Chris 'Ludacris' Bridges character Tej - will be released July 2019 with Fast & Furious 9, the franchise's penultimate entry, arriving April 2020.
